During my time as Global Marketing Director at world leading HR services Randstad, we worked many years with Dilip and his team. We worked with them on establishing the photographic visual identity of Randstad in greater India. Many photoshoots in all major Indian cities and as well in the crown: a photoshoot on the Randstad co-owned Clipper Stad Amsterdam at the cote d'azur in France. Working with Dilip Bhatia, always made me realise a photographer should never be over directed or over briefed. He is an essence photographer, someone who instinctively captures the image none of us could have predicted. And beyond the camera he is simply a wonderful friend to have.
I have known Dilip now for over two and half decades. To say that Dilip is one of the finest photographer in India would not only be stating the obvious but also diminishing the sheen of a name etched on gold, silver and bronze across the world by a jury that sits on the pinnacle of visual excellence. Dilip's depth of work, body of work, width of work and excellence in every frame is for all of us to see and relish. What you see when you work with him, which I have over few decades is company of a man who is a genius. Every photographer frames his shots perfectly well, gets the lighting spot on, but that is what a photographer is supposed to do, what Dilip does is he adds a little soul into his frames, sprinkles it with lot of visual romance, laces with thoughts and meaning and what comes frozen in time is a picture that truly speaks a thousand words. Add to this creative genius a personality that is down to earth, humble, easy going, always ready to listen, looking for solutions rather than magnifying problems what you end up with is a memorable shoot, world class images and a relationship that lasts a lifetime.
It has been a privilege working with Dilip since 1994. Over the past three decades, his professionalism, eye for detail and ability to capture moments with authenticity have remained truly exceptional. Very few photographers combine technical mastery with such consistency and calm presence on set. It’s always a pleasure collaborating with him. I wish him continued success as he takes his work to new audiences.

I could not be happier with the outcome of the "Photographer of the year", with Dilip Bhatia’s win. The range of work we judges saw was very eclectic, as photography is these days. It is good to see a contemporary photographer focusing on a social issue within this open ended prize for the simple reason that his work was strong, the subject significant and the approach intelligent and direct. I felt his heart was on it.
It is no surprise that Dilip Vishwamitra Bhatia has emerged as the WPGA "Photographer of the year". His images of blind children, who are full of spirit, laughter and inquisitiveness rise above the rest. As I was going through the more than 4000 pictures, I would continually come back to Bhatia’s excellent work.
I would like to thank all the people who submitted more than 2,000 works from 57 countries for this competition. I selected Dilip Bhatia’s image of the Akhada Fighters as the top portrait. Dilip has won many awards and honors, and his work stood out.
There is excellent interplay between the rich saturated color, the shadows and reds, and the geometry of the image, which suggests a heroic quality. The monochromatic tones are nicely punctuated by the red garment and the light reflecting from their bodies makes the picture look almost three-dimensional.
Dilip has honed his skills over the years, and I fully expect him to be a force in the field of portrait photography in the years to come.
